Social Media trends, things you need to know in 2015

As we start a new year there are always interesting discussions about trends, strategy and predictions to look forward to. The digital landscape has been growing very quickly, especially over the last 12 months, and in this competitive environment new businesses are putting impressive efforts into strategies aimed at dividing the digital market to attract a wider audience.

A recent study states that one quarter of the world population uses social media. That is almost 1,800,000,000 people posting, pinning, tweeting, sharing, instagramming... on a daily basis! Just to give you an idea, every 60 seconds: 277000 snaps are shared on Snapchat, 67000 photos are uploaded on Instagram and 293000 statuses are updated on Facebook. In 2015, more than ever, social media will be extremely competitive.

S-commerce will be part of the e-commerce market.

Social commerce, sometimes abbreviated as “s-commerce”, is a form of electronic commerce that uses social networks to promote products. Social networks are currently developing ways to handle payments without the user having to leave the network. According to a recent study, social commerce sales are forecasted to represent 5% of all online retail revenue in 2015 (Global e-commerce sales: $1,2 trillion).

Smartphones will be the priority in 2015. As you are checking your mobile at least 150 times a day and 65% of social network activity is from a smartphone devices, it is becoming the platform of choice for social media users. Hence, advertising and shopping systems are being tailored to smartphone devices. This advertising system has many advantages, especially because it will allow advertisers to display appropriate ads based on users' geo-location.

The social advertising such as Snapchat's ad or auto-play video on Facebook will continue to grow in 2015. This new video trend is likely to soon replace text content in adverts as it is easy to create and share with our smartphone. It is also much more meaningful than a text or picture advert. For brands, it means there are many ways to interact with customers through video and deliver a message. Services such as Instagram, Instavid, Hyperlapse, Snapchat or Vine have shown to be great platforms to deal with this new trend and build a strong brand image.

That's a first look at social media trends in 2015. With mobile becoming more popular, marketing will be more than ever in the right place, at the right time, with the right content. 2015 is a year with many opportunities for brands, web developers and designers.

SEM vs. SEO: Which strategy is right for your company?

Is your goal to obtain more online visibility? You are probably looking for the most effective online strategy for your company? Then you should explore and understand these two methods: SEM and SEO. Both of these techniques can be very effective, depending on your needs and expectations.

SEM is a paid marketing strategy. One of the most popular methods is “pay-per-click” ads: this model is an internet advertising strategy used to direct traffic to websites. This can also be referred to as keyword advertising.
On the other hand, SEO is the process of increasing the visibility of a webpage or domain in a search engine’s natural search results. This involves pushing the ranking of your website higher on the results list.

We believe that combining SEO and SEM in a campaign can benefit your company's online presence and brand image tremendously. Here are some reasons why you should combine both SEO and SEM in a campaign:
  • You will appear in both organic and paid sections in search results with the same keywords.
  • According to a report from Search engine Watch, combining these two strategies can deliver higher conversion rates, up to 200%.
  • You will increase your brand exposure on Google. Statistics show that 90% of Google search users are only looking at first page results. Less than 10% of people go to page 2! By appearing on the first page of Google search engine results your company will maximise its e-impact and conversion rate.
  • Combining these two methods optimizes your spending and will boost your e-performance.

Deciding whether to choose SEM or SEO strategy for your company campaign can be a hard task. However, both of these strategies provide significant benefits. Today, marketers are realizing that SEM and SEO are not so different: there are complementary programs that, when managed accurately, can benefit from each other to increase visibility and conversion rates."
